Confusion and outrage continue to build across the nation in the wake of President Donald Trump's executive order that blocks refugees from entering the United States and bans all people from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

"The decision of the USA government to impose a travel ban on Muslims to the United States, though temporarily for three months, is a clear insult to the Islamic world, especially to the great nation of Iran", the statement reads.

Iran's Foreign Ministry has censured a recent "affront" decision made by the new United States government to restrict arrivals from the Islamic Republic and six other Muslim countries, vowing that Tehran would respond to the move in kind.

Responding to confusion and outcry over President Donald Trump's executive order Friday suspending the US refugee program and banning travelers from seven countries, the White House heaped praise on USA bureaucrats for their swift implementation of the order.

Iran is set to take "reciprocal measures" against the United States in retaliation for the visa ban put into effect by President Trump's executive order.

A Foreign Ministry statement carried by state media said Iran "would take appropriate consular, legal and political measures" against the ban, which was announced by President Donald Trump on Friday.

"The recent decision [made by] the United States of America includes illegal and irrational expectations which are against global law", the ministry pointed out.

Some who were already in the air when Trump signed the executive order were detained on arrival, the New York Times reported.

Iran slammed the "insulting" ban and said it would reciprocate.

The death of Alan Kurdi caused an global outpouring of support for Syrian refugees and played a role in the defeat of the Conservative government in the last federal election.

Trump's anticipated ban comes as one of those countries, Iran, experiences an influx of foreigners.

"U.S. CBP has confirmed it is the citizenship document they present to enter the country, not the country of where they were born", Stewart wrote in an email.

"We need to keep this country safe, but we should do that by focusing on people who actually pose a threat ..."

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif issued a series of tweets in response to President Trump's order, saying the move would be "a great gift to extremists and their supporters".

"We're dealing with a relatively small universe of people", the official adding, calling it "astonishing" how little disruption has occurred.

Green card holders from those seven Muslim-majority countries are also prohibited from entering, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

"This decision made the USA lose its reputation in the world as the biggest economy, the biggest democracy", said refugee Nasser Sheik, 44, who was paralyzed by a stroke two years ago and lives with his family in Amman.
