Big Lines From Trump's News Conference

FILE Retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg speaks to the media in the lobby of Donald Trump's Trump Tower in New York

And I can tell you, one thing about a briefing that we're allowed to say, because anybody that ever read the most basic book can say it, nuclear holocaust would be like no other.

"We're going to find the leakers, and they're going to pay a big price", he said.

Using Trump's dislike of the media as a current example, the President has said of the U.S. media that "the level of dishonesty is out of control".

Reading from prepared remarks he says the press represents special interests and not the people, and has become "so dishonest".

POTUS had a chance to face some of the journalists he believes are peddling that "fake news" this evening, this was his message for them. I'm glad we have a president who is looking out for our safety. "If anything, he did something right".

On Russia: The Russia story "is a ruse".

When asked to explain the discrepancy, he said "The leaks are absolutely real but the news is fake because so much of the news is fake". The tone is hatred. The more personal he gets, the more they love it.

'I mean, I watch CNN.

Trump complained about the "hatred and venom" from nearly exclusive "anti-Trump" people.

"To be honest, I inherited a mess", Trump told reporters in the East Room. The Trump administration has since declared that the executive order goes farther than originally intended by barring even those immigrants with green cards from the specified countries from entering ours.

He also referred to a large campaign-style rally in Florida on Saturday ("I heard - just heard that the crowds are massive that want to be there") and said that when it comes to governing, he is just getting started. All of a sudden, it's out there for the world to see. "They're very - not because they're good, because they hit me also when I do something wrong". He justified Wikileaks saying they didn't publish classified information.

He was then asked by CNN, another of the targets of his attacks, whether he accepted that his earlier campaign calls for Russian Federation to release hacked Clinton emails and admissions that he worked with Wikileaks left him with little credibility.

He also stressed that he had no loans or business deals in Russian Federation from his previous career as a real estate mogul.

Admittedly, the last week hasn't been the best one for the Trump administration. If confirmed by the Senate, Acosta would be the first Hispanic pick in Trump's cabinet. He couldn't actually point out anything inaccurate.

When the reporter raised his hand to follow up, Trump sharply barked "Quiet, quiet!", and reminded the crowd that Benjamin Netanyahu had praised him in a press conference yesterday. As bad as they claim it is, they never had any plan to replace it - and still don't!

Trump was grilled on recent Russian provocations of the US, including "buzzing" a US Navy ship with its jets.
