Cars catch fire in Disneyland parking structure, no word on cause

A fire broke out in Disneyland's main parking structure Monday that burned eight cars and caused seven people to be treated for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames around 5:35 p.m., officials said.

The fire, which was on the second level of the structure, was extinguished in less than 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is now under investigation, but there is nothing to suggest foul play at this time.

Four cars were totally destroyed, while another four sustained significant damage.

Initial damage was estimated to be around $180,000, authorities said. "I think it was one flight below our vehicle", said Adam Habie of Placentia.

The number of victims could be up to seven, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

Aerial footage from NewsChopper 4 showed black smoke billowing into the air. "It's more of a nuisance than anything", Darren Clark, whose family of four couldn't get to their auto because of the shutdown, told KNBC-TV. The Disneyland parks remained open and unaffected.

Guests planning to visit the parks Monday evening were asked to use the Toy Story parking lot at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Convention Way.
