Google Maps updated with improved Your Places functionality

Google Maps

The feature, which was previously available to Google Local Guides, allows users to create lists of places, share their lists with others, and follow the lists of friends and family. Starting today, Google Maps' new feature "Lists" will help you mark out the places you love and the places you want to recommend to friends. To add a location into a list, navigate to it in the Google Maps app and tap the "Save" button to choose from a collection of pre-set lists, or users can create their own custom lists. Then, you need only tap Your places in the sidebar, then Saved to see your lists. On both Android and iOS, users can share link to your list via any app on your phone: Hangouts, SMS, Whatsapp, or even on Facebook or Twitter.

Google is moving to make Maps more than just about getting to your destination. Other users can follow your list and access it when needed.

For example, if you plan a museum trip in a new city you're visiting, you can add them all to a "Museums" to visit list. This is great news because you now can share the places you want to visit with friends and family.

Google today announced a new feature for Google Maps which makes its mapping service a bit social. The lists also saved offline, so when you're not in vicinity of Wi-Fi or signal is bad you can easily access your pre-existing lists. Additionally, users will also be able to create their own lists.

The idea with lists is to organize your favorite places, provide restaurant or nightlife recommendations to out-of-towners, or create an easy-to-follow itinerary when you're traveling.

Google has rolled out an update to Google Maps. Once you find a destination that you'd like to add, you'll want to click/tap the icon that's listed as "Save".

The app will also have social components, entering into the territory of Foursquare. But now the company is rolling out the function to all users.
