Instagram is Snapchat's biggest threat

In recent months, Instagram has turned copycat in nabbing a similar "Stories" feature that Snapchat was at the vanguard for as well as trying to shoot a mortar at Facebook's "Live Video" feature by launching their own.

Facebook (FB) and Snapchat are in a sort of arms race to woo young users and appeal to advertisers.

Facebook appears to be wearing Snapchat filters.yet again. "They've already set up a lot of measurement and data to support ad dollars being spent there". The feature allows users to share photos and videos which disappear after 24 hours and don't appear anywhere on the profile grid or in feed.

Doesn't seem like much of a surprise considering Facebook-owned Instagram also introduced its own version of the feature, very much a clone of the one present. Since then, it's amassed 150 million daily Stories users-as many daily users as Snapchat's entire app has amassed in five years. Social-media managers say they've seen Snapchat views decline from 15 to 40 percent since August. Both global and USA download rates for Snapchat and Instagram have remained relatively same over the year, according to App Annie. Because Facebook offers marketers immediate access to much larger audiences, Snapchat's unique features are their main weapon of survival. Instagram also makes it easy to mass-follow other users; Snapchat does not, and it has a more nuanced user interface, which may be to its disadvantage. In that space, Snapchat has a service called Discover, while Instagram has Stories. When Snapchat parent company Snap goes on its I.P.O. roadshow to woo bankers and analysts, it is expected to pitch itself as a content powerhouse like Facebook, not a content platform like Twitter, as the Wall Street Journal has reported. The blue social media giant is in talks to let several Hollywood studios promote big-budget movies using new animated masks on the social network.

Conversely, investors may like to know what Snapchat's addressable market is.
