Microsoft launches Skype Lite for India

Satya Nadella Microsoft CEO

Skype's light version, which is available in nine Indian languages, also has a built-in Aadhaar identity tool that can help companies and businesses in doing background checks of the applications.

Recently, Nadella, met Ravi Shankar Prasad, Indian Minister for Electronics and IT, wherein both discussed the benefits of technology in various "Digital India" projects. He cited Microsoft's work with the Andhra Pradesh government that used machine learning to identify the reasons for students dropping off from high school.

BotsThe app is also introducing chatbot into the mainframe of the app, which seems to be a helpful addition.

Microsoft has just found the flawless Skype app for the Indian market. If the person chooses to share that information, at the end of the call, all of the Aadhaar ID data is completely erased from the recipient's device.

In addition to facilitating communications via the Skype platform, Skype Lite will allow you to read and receive SMS messages and will have a section from which one can control the use of mobile data.

"Project Sangam", Nadella said, will act as an open ecosystem where individuals can learn skills based on the content delivered to its portal.

Speaking at the company's Future Decoded event in Mumbai Nadella said, "Microsoft's cloud and mobile technologies are being using across large, medium and small enterprises and across government departments in India". Because of its integration with Microsoft Office, we anticipate more usage among professional users. The project is still under private preview. Additionally, Nadella said that LinkedIn now has 39 million users in the country. But the problem is that you don't control the data in that scenario. This makes sense because the full app may be too heavy for India. Microsoft said the app is optimized for 2G and flaky network connections and will consume less battery power. "What we were seeing is that people were aware of Skype, they were our users, but they were dropping off", said Nadella. "Combining Microsoft's cloud platform and Artificial Intelligence capabilities with Flipkart's existing services and data assets, will enable Flipkart to accelerate its digital transformation in e-commerce and deliver new customer experiences".

Nilekani, who was chairman of UIDAI (which built Aadhaar) and who has been involved in building some of the other parts of the infrastructure - collectively called "India stack" - said unless people see technology materially improving their living standards, there could be a backlash against it from society, "like we see in the USA now" (a reference to Donald Trump's victory).
