On-song Tsonga to tackle Pouille in all-French final

Nick Kyrgios' Marseille Open title defence is over and he went down whining in a tough three-set battle with in-form Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals.

Victory in the final would mean a career first for Tsonga of back-to-back ATP triumphs and marks a stunning return to form for the 2016 US Open quarter-finalist.

Tsonga struck in the first game of the match to break Pouille's serve and was untroubled as he closed out the first set.

"This is the second week in a row that I'm heading home without a loss, it does not happen so often", said the 31 year-old, who should rise four places to No.7 in the world rankings to be announced on Monday.

Pouille and Tsonga have only met once in competition, Tsonga winning on the clay at Monaco last season.

The 21-year-old Australian fired down 15 aces and lost just six points on serve in a ruthless display that lasted less than an hour.

But the defending champion fell to the second seed Frenchman, which sets up an all French final against Lucas Pouille.

"I'm on top form right now so let's see", Tsonga said.

He broke decisively in the third game of the third set when he slid a backhand up the line past a net-rushing Kyrgios.

"I was never in too much danger".

He saved the only break point he faced in the match and won the final seven points of the second-set tiebreaker to seize the victory.
