Post-encounter, curfew in parts of tense J&K

Four Kashmiri youth and a civilian were killed on Sunday by Indian forces in their stepped up state terrorism in Indian-Occupied Kashmir.

Police stated that it had no "easy" solution to control people on such occasions, saying that they are massively interfering in its "anti- militancy" operations.

On 4 February, security personnel intercepted and neutralised two terrorists in Baramulla district, after receiving a tip-off about their presence in the area.

Four militants, two soldiers and a civilian were killed in the encounter while another civilian was killed and 20 others injured in security forces firing on protestors during clashes near the encounter site.

The clashes erupted soon after one civilian was killed in the encounter between security forces and militants.

Militants that were hiding in the village purportedly fired shots at the security forces, following which, the army gunned down four militants of the outfit. He also claimed that before "achieving martyrdom" they inflicted heavy casualties on security forces.

In the operation, almost four militants have been neutralised while two others are still holed up inside the house in Kulgam's Yaripora, ANI reported. The official statement alleged that two army men and the house owner were also killed in the fire fight while three soldiers were injured, adding the injured soldiers were hospitalised.

Within minutes, as the stone throwing become intense, Mushtaq Ibrahim Itoo, 22, a resident of Srigufwara Bijbehara, was hit by a bullet in the chest.

Police said that keeping in view the strike call, the authorities imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in Kulgam and Shopian districts to prevent any violence.

Both the Army and J&K police termed the killing of militants as a "major breakthrough" against Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahedin.

More than 70,000 Kashmiris have been killed so far in the violence, majority by Indian forces. Encounter still underway in south Kashmir. "All were involved in several terror incidents, including killing of police personnel", a police spokesman said.
