Reince Priebus: Donald Trump Campaign's Contact With Russian Agents 'Baloney'

Priebus went on to say that the major story out of the White House is a "story of accomplishment", pointing to the administration's work in pulling out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, issuing executive actions, and nominating a Supreme Court justice, among other things.

Priebus went on to say he thought the media should be reporting on what Trump has done in his first month in office. "So we spend, you know, 48 hours on bogus stories, and the American people suffer", Priebus said.

One is a New York Times report that says phone records and intercepted calls show Trump's aides had repeated contacts with Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.

Priebus pointed to breathless scandal coverage compared to the minimal coverage given to the administration's accomplishments so far. "You don't get to tell us what to do any more than Barack Obama did", Wallace said.

"When I say top-level people, I mean top-level people", he said.

According to the Daily News, Priebus continued with the same line on the CBS Sunday morning talk show, Face the Nation, hosted by John Dickerson, going so far as to say that Flynn did nothing wrong in discussing sanctions with Russian Federation.

Priebus, in a series of news-show interviews, also insisted that ousted national security advisor Mike Flynn had done nothing illegal in discussing sanctions against Russian Federation with the country's ambassador to Washington prior to Trump's inauguration, and batted aside questions about disorder and disarray in the White House.

"We are talking about something he's termed as fake news", Priebus said. They then asked Wallace whether Trump's fraught relationship with the media was a big deal.

Wallace pressed Priebus and argued that the president was not referring to individual stories.

During an interview with CBS's John Dickerson that aired Sunday, Priebus cited two recent stories that he described as "grossly inaccurate, overstated, overblown" and "total garbage".

USA intelligence has asserted that Russian Federation engaged computer hacking and propaganda effort to manipulate the presidential election that was won by Trump.

Wallace asked Priebus if the president believes that a "free and independent press is a threat to the country".

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said he first learned that he was wrong about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's discussion about sanctions with the Russian ambassador "sometime after January 27" - after acting Attorney General Sally Yates informed White House Counsel Don McGahn about Flynn's calls.

Wallace noted that even former President Barack Obama was a media critic: "Lord knows, Barack Obama criticized Fox News". "I can't tell you that".

"You don't get to tell us what to do, Reince".
