Rep. Cheney Sees Risk Of Health Care System Collapsing

John Boehner

Rep. Mo Brooks (Ala.) said Thursday on "The Morning Show with Toni and Gary" on WBHP 800 Alabama radio that "there are, in my opinion, a significant number of congressmen who are being impacted by these kinds of protests and their spine is a little bit weak". Now it has just two.

As a Republican-controlled Congress moves closer to repealing the Affordable Care Act, elected officials and activists rallied in Iowa City on Saturday in support of the health care law. It's being hosted by multiple Lee County Republican groups. Some saying they've seen the positive impact of the Affordable Care Act.

"I think they don't have any kind of full substantial plan for actually taking care of people on Medicare or Medicaid".

Almost 1 in 4 Americans has a pre-existing health condition-that's 52 million people under the age of 65. Companies that are self-insured, insurance companies, makers of medical devices, employees and retirees with extraordinarily generous health care benefits, and people who don't have health insurance all face fines, fees or taxes under the law, although some of these have been postponed or dropped.

Similar rallies of health-care professionals, spearheaded by a NY doctor who graduated from Abington High School, were scheduled in 17 other cities nationwide, according to a Facebook organizing page.

"(Republicans) want to get rid of something that everybody calls Obamacare now, but they don't have any clue about what they want to put in place of it", Headrick said.

"That's the big question mark, the Republicans have no plan", James said. "If there's all sorts of burdens on emergency care centers again-they don't want to see a bunch of sad stories about cancer patients who can't get treatment". "I believe this resistance is registering", he said.

Some Democrats were also critical of U.S. Representative Francis Rooney, complaining that he has yet to hold a town hall meeting in his district.

New Britain resident Amy Martin addressed the crowd to tell about her friend who lost his job and health insurance after his boss died.

"Cancer doesn't care about lifetime limits", 69-year-old Elise Winters said at the rally. And it is not true that privatization of health care brings more "flexibility and choice". Though Politico says this measure is favored by healthcare economists on both sides, it's politically toxic; both unions and businesses have lobbied against similar proposals (the "Cadillac" tax, for example) in the past.

"Pace said. "(Health care) is a right.

The Morelos governor said he was speaking to his US counterparts to foster cooperation that will increase trade and create jobs in both countries.

"I have children who need healthcare, my neighbors will need healthcare".

"Before the ACA, it was hard to arrange for continued care" after students left college, Belasco said.

"A lot of people don't seem to realize that", she said.

"This doesn't feel optional to me", she said. "This has become part of it".
