Telsa starts Model 3 production

Last May, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company "would aim to produce 100,000 to 200,000 Model 3s in the second half of next year". This will ensure that the company achieves its target of starting the production in July. We regard 0-30-mph acceleration times as the benchmark for how hard a auto launches, and this new Tesla gets there 0.05 second ahead of the next quickest (aforementioned) 0.92-second 911 Turbo S. The two run pretty even through 40 miles per hour, after which the Tesla pulls ahead, maintaining a 0.2-second lead from 60 miles per hour through 90 miles per hour.

Tesla's previous launches for the Model S sedan and Model X SUV were marked by production delays and initial quality issues.

The sources did not know how numerous highly anticipated vehicles Tesla aimed to build in February, but it would likely be a small number to test the assembly system and the quality of vehicle parts.

Engadget stressed that no other production vehicle has broken the 2.3-second mark in all the test runs that "Motor Trend" has conducted.

"What better way to stoke the fan base and Wall Street than to wheel out pre-production models", said an anonymous source familiar with Tesla's plans to Automotive News.

KPIX 5 has reached out to Tesla for comment.

The move is a clear sign that the company is on track with development on the much-anticipated vehicle, which is scheduled to go into volume production later this year. The Tesla hit 60 faster than any other vehicle of any price Motor Trend ever tested, including the $1.4 million Ferrari LaFerrari, $1.15 million McLaren P1, and the $845,000 Porsche 918.

The company took more than 350,000 deposits of $1,000 each on the Model 3 when it was unveiled last March. Some analysts in particular have been very harsh, with Brian Johnson of Barclays proclaiming: "We assume 0 Model 3 deliveries in '17".

A spokesperson for Tesla had stated to The Verge that, "Tesla will begin a brief, planned pause in production for a week in February to prepare for Model 3 production".
