Toddler, woman wounded, man killed in Chicago

The toddler was riding in the vehicle with his 26-year-old uncle, who was also shot and killed, and his uncle's 20-year-old pregnant girlfriend, who was wounded, according to the Chicago Tribune.

According to the report, the 2-year-old was sitting in a auto that was being driven by his aunt when he was shot in the head.

The two-year-old boy, identified by U.S. media as Lavontay White, was shot in the head on Tuesday and died later at a hospital. While the boy was revived at the scene, he and the man were later pronounced dead at a hospital. But while Breunna sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach, both she and her unborn baby are reportedly in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital and are expected to survive.

Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said three people were shot in the 2300 block of South Kenneth Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Chicago Police Supt Eddie Johnson said no arrests have bene made in the connection with the killing of two-year-old Lavontay, but the police have some "very promising leads". The woman then runs from the vehicle into the home of someone she appears to know. They do not know how far into the pregnancy she is, he said.

Police are examining dramatic video that captured a shooting that killed a toddler and a man authorities say was the intended target. Both girls were in critical condition on Monday but police have not updated their condition since.

"My gut is telling me that when we finally find this guy, we're going to find that he's a repeat gun offender".

Lavontay was the third child shot in Chicago since the weekend and the second to die on Tuesday. James Johnson, 23, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Gang violence in Chicago has gained national attention, with 762 homicides recorded last year-almost 300 more than 2015-and over 3,500 shooting incidents.

"This has got to stop somewhere".

"Anyone with information about these crimes owes it to the families of these children to come forward", Emanuel said.
