Brazil cements its place in next year's World Cup finals

Paulinho paced Brazil with a hat trick.

"I was happy about the 90 minutes. our capacity to absorb a goal against us and keep playing based on one idea".

With the 3-1 lead, a frantic Uruguay tried desperately to mount some kind of offense, but Brazil's defense stymied them at every opportunity. Experienced goalkeeper Fernando Muslera was also banned and replaced by Martin Silva. Gabriel unfortunately is injured. To all this, it is the Pentakampeon that is the most successful national team in history, with five world championship titles on its account.

The hosts were stung into action and began to press Brazil as they searched for an equaliser but left themselves susceptible to an counter-attack which Neymar took full advantage of in the 74th minute to effectively seal the result. A strong, surging run from Neymar starting on the halfway line saw Philippe Coutinho played through in the penalty area and a delightful delivery across the six-yard box only needed a touch but Firmino fluffed his lines with an open goal at his mercy.

PSG's Edinson Cavani had put Uruguay ahead from the penalty spot in the ninth minute, but Paulinho equalised 10 minutes later.

Cavani converted his own penalty kick.

The match continued to live up to the pre-game hype as Brazil drew level thanks to a wonder goal from Paulinho after 19 minutes.

Uruguay, who were missing the suspended Luis Suarez, remain in second place in the standings but were scarred by the result.

In the second half Uruguay completely disappeared from the field.

Seven minutes after halftime, Roberto Firmino turned at the edge of the box and had Silva diving at his low shot. Junior Alonso then sealed the points just after the hour mark, firing home a rebound from close range after Esteban Dreer saved Cecilio Dominguez's initial effort.

Brazil is still to lose a point under coach Tite, who took over in September and secured on Thursday his seventh straight win in the South American qualifiers.
