Calvert-Lewin, Lukaku lead Everton rout of Hull

Celtic's Stuart Armstrong celebrates scoring their first goal

The stand-off between the Belgium global and Everton intensified when he publicly questioned the club's level of ambition following his contract rejection.

Romelu Lukaku proved his worth to Everton as he scored twice and set up another as Ronald Koeman's side moved up into the top six of the Premier League with a 4-0 victory over 10-man Hull City.

The home side opened the scoring on nine minutes when Tom Davies played a cross into Calvert-Lewin at the back post, and the youngster made no mistake from close range.

"If the player shows his commitment through his football, then it's no problem".

Everton now sit seventh in the Premier League table, two points behind Manchester United though the Old Trafford club have two games in hand.

However, for almost 80 minutes an unconvincing performance against relegation strugglers appeared to be adding weight to the striker's argument. "Everybody loves Rom", Koeman said of Lukaku, who has just over two years remaining on his current deal.

A late Romelu Lukaku double and an Enner Valencia strike securing a convincing win for Everton, which will be remembered especially fondly by academy product Calvert-Lewin. Lukaku has scored 19 goals in 27 games this term.

With all the focus on the club-record signing's future, it was a trio from the club's youth teams who claimed the spotlight with the eighth-minute opener.

"Our home form has been really good this season and we look to continue it every time we play at Goodison", he added. It was his first start since early January after injury.

Everton dominated but Hull stayed in the game until 15 minutes from time when midfielder Tom Huddlestone was shown a straight red card for a foul on Idrissa Gueye.

It released the pressure building up on the hosts, who quickly added the second to finally kill off the game before Lukaku stole the spotlight once again.
