China warns U.S. over long-range anti-missile system deployed in South Korea

China warns U.S. over long-range anti-missile system deployed in South Korea

USA disarmament ambassador Robert Wood condemned the tests as North Korea's latest violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo Ahn has condemned the launches as a direct challenge to the global community and said Seoul would swiftly deploy a USA anti-missile defence system despite angry objections from China.

"The launches are clearly in violation of (U.N.) Security Council resolutions".

The missiles traveled about 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) and three of them landed in waters close to Japan that are part of its exclusive economic zone.

The United States has begun assembling its missile defense system in South Korea, following yesterday's news that North Korea deployed four more missiles Monday morning.

The four ballistic missiles fired Monday morning were launched by a military unit "tasked to strike the bases of the USA imperialist aggressor forces in Japan", the KCNA report said.

While North Korea routinely test-fires missiles - including more than two dozen past year - the timing of these launches is particularly sensitive.

A recent report by a United Nations panel of experts said North Korea was resorting to ingenious ways to circumvent sanctions, by setting up front companies, notably in China and Malaysia. North Korea is likely to release a statement as well as photos and video recordings of the launches on Tuesday.

"Because there were four missiles, and if they were launched simultaneously at similar targets, it makes missile defence efforts more hard", Michishita said.

The prime minister expressed his view that Tokyo and Washington should have the same strategic objectives, in line with the ongoing review of US policy toward North Korea.

US officials told NBC the "first elements" of a THAAD installation have already arrived in South Korea, hours after its acting president and prime minister begged for a deployment as quickly as possible there.

That rocket - said by the North to use solid fuel and to be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead - flew east for about 500 kilometres before falling into the Sea of Japan, South Korea said at the time.

A South Korean protester attends a rally to oppose the joint military exercises, dubbed Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, last week.

"It is important for Japan and the United States to share strategic goals", the prime minister said. It could come online as early as next month, South Korea's Yonhap News reported.
