As at the time of this report, the investigative hearing was still ongoing as the committee was set to begin hearing on the allegation against the President of the Senate.

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has backtracked on his initial call for the investigation of Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye.

Citing some lecturers at the Department of Geography, they claimed his name was not on their graduation list as he failed no fewer than five core courses.

Senator Melaye has since filed a N5 billion libel suit against Sahara Reporters at an FCT High Court.

Curiously though, checks at the university revealed that it only offers B.Sc. Geography and not B.A. Geography as reflected on Melaye's statement of results.

Prof. Garba told the Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions that the Senator graduated with a 3rd class degree in Geography.

He tendered his NYSC discharge certificate which, according to Peter Nwaoboshi, PDP-Delta, showed Mr. Melaye served between 2000 and 2001.

Professor Garba who had sat in room 120 where the hearing took place was excused out at 1.21 before Melaye spoke. LSE is one of the higher institutions of learning where Melaye claimed that he had earned one certificate or another.

Wikipedia, meanwhile, has edited Melaye's profile to include "Certificate Scandal".
