Google mobile app, website redesign adds search shortcuts

Android users can also tap a little arrow at the side to unearth a bunch more shortcuts, covering location-based tidbits such as nearby restaurants and bars, or tools such as Google Translate, games, and an internet speed test. Fortunately, Google chose to confirm the rumors and released the developer preview of Android 8.0 O. Nexus and Pixel smartphone owners that are enlisted in Google's Android Beta Program can download the major operating system update files right now. The feature isn't exactly new, and was actually supported by Android TV devices when Nougat was released. You can download the file for your supported device from the Google Developer's site here.

Android O will give users greater control over notifications.

Android O's also getting better keyboard support for improved app navigation. In Android O, Google further enhance the user experience with the notification center by introducing "app-defined categories for notification content" called "channels".

The said multitasking feature from Android Nougat MR2 (7.1.2) will show a larger card view of the recently opened apps ditching its trademark carousel motion. The report stated that this would allow you to get a quick glance at how many notifications you have for any given app just by looking at your home screen.

Lastly, another feature would be "restricted background activities" from apps such as Chrome 57.

9to5Google has learnt from sources that Android O will bag series of new features as it is going to be a "substantial update".

"Android O puts a big priority on improving a user's battery life and the device's interactive performance", Burke explained in a blog post.

The update will also bring with it new adaptive icons and better support for displays with wider color gamut capabilities.

There's now a wide color gamut option for developers to better take advantage of the insane good screens on our phones, including AdobeRGB, Pro Photo RGB, DCI-P3, and more. Videos and pictures will also get sharper and crisper.

Whenever a user connects the device to a Wi-Fi network or takes a picture, background apps come into action due to "implicit broadcasts", but the new Android version places a cap on them.
