Illinois Could Be Loser in Republican Healthcare Plan

Ryan Rand Paul 'insulting' Trump by suggesting GOP is misleading him

Before the ACA, nearly 45,000 people died annually because they lacked health insurance.

The couple bought health insurance for their kids, but not for themselves. "And after the bankruptcy, I couldn't get anything through insurance because I had a pre-existing condition". And state officials in Alabama, many of them critics of the ACA, have expressed concern that the Obamacare replacement would upend state budgets. But although the new bill continues to make its way through the House, it remains intensely controversial among both Democrats and Republicans.

Right now, Alabamians who don't have employer-provided health insurance can buy it on a federally run exchange. Thirty-one states and Washington, D.C., took advantage of the offer and added 15.7 million people to the program, according to government data. Those credits get smaller as income rises and phase out when families and individuals have incomes greater than 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

But even if Texas gets to keep all that money, there's another whammy - the GOP plan caps how much money states get for Medicaid from the federal government for every person they cover.

The original bill also would allow insurers to charge these folks more than younger consumers, causing premiums for older enrollees to spike.

As part of the $465 billion in tax breaks for the wealthy and health care companies, Trumpcare gives the pharmaceutical industry a $25 billion handout.

Four GOP governors are pushing the plan, saying they represent most of the 33 Republican state chief executives. Young adults can remain on their parents' plans until they turn 26, but Obamacare's individual mandate would be gone. According to CBPP's analysis, that gap could start to widen again under the Republicans' health care plan.

In the starkest example, the CBO calculated the impact on a 64-year-old with an income of $26,500. The uninsured rate for Americans under age 65 fell to a historic low of 10.3% for the first nine months of 2016.

Lower prices, the Republicans claim, will come with increased competition.

Jonathan Wu, chief executive of ValuePenguin.com, a personal finance website that conducts research on everything from insurance to tracking daily spending, said the Republican measure is complex. She said despite a link between entrepreneurship and the Affordable Care Act, it hasn't really come up in the debate over health care.

"It means there are people who chose not to have health insurance under the plans that are available to them", Conaway said. They don't want to lose their necessary health care services. In its place there are tax credits based upon age for those making up to $75,000 a year.

"For tax credits, it always depends on how your expenses go each year. a lot of the time the two don't line up well", Tyson said.

Don't just slam Obamacare. fix it, or replace it with something better. "And so this has been a good thing for OH".

"What my plan is is that I wanna take care of everybody".

Will I have to pay for benefits I don't need? He described the Medicaid changes as "historic reforms to make Medicaid more efficient and effective". "Instead of being in the emergency room, they're now getting primary care".
