Malcolm Butler reportedly met with Saints ahead of schedule

Ultimately, the Saints didn't shop Cooks; teams contacted the Saints, and the Saints chose to pursue the possibility.

That said, the 23-year-old Cooks says joining Brady's receiving corps is a dream scenario as he enters his fourth season in the league having followed Brady's career since he was a kid.

Patriots restricted free agent cornerback Malcolm Butler has scheduled a visit with the Saints at the team's headquarters on Thursday. They've already filled most of their biggest needs in free agency, and adding a top-tier cornerback like Butler would be the best move of the bunch as it would allow New Orleans to truly approach the draft with a best-player-available approach instead of potentially reaching for a cornerback in the early rounds.

The wide receiver's name was mentioned in various trade rumors before he ultimately was dealt to the Patriots last Friday, but he said those didn't stem from any animosity between him and the Saints. In the Saints' case, it would cost the No. 11 pick, not the No. 32 selection they received in last week's Brandin Cooks trade.

While there have been reports that Butler wants to remain with the New England Patriots and make things work with the team that gave him his start, Michael Giardi of CSNNE.com was told by a source that Butler has "warmed up to the idea" of playing in New Orleans.

Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports is reporting on Tuesday that the Texans are willing to part with their second round pick in this year's draft (57th overall) if Butler is inked to a long-term deal.

"As a young guy, there were some things I'd like to have did more; not like I wasn't able to do them, we just had great guys doing those other things, so if it's not broke, why fix it?" I pretty much knew what type of organization they was, without even being in their building. "The way I look at it now I take it positive and I see it as a blessing just because of the hardships we had to overcome in life in general, so to be able to play this game - the hardships that we go through on the field - it's nothing compared to that". I don't have to be the superstar.

It appears Malcolm Butler was very anxious to meet with the Saints. However, the Saints asking price from the Eagles was Jenkins and a second-round pick.
