Rachel Dolezal Has Legally Changed Her Name To A West African Moniker

In 2015 Rachel Dolezal former president of the NAACP’s Spokane Washington chapter and a part-time teacher of Africana Studies at Eastern Washington University was'outed by her parents as white

The name change escaped the notice of the public eye and mainstream news and apparently Dolezal, rather Diallo, counted on that to use her new identity.

Dolezal, 39, turned heads in an interview in The Guardian last Saturday, in which she said she still did not consider herself white and has not been able to find a job since the controversy broke in 2015.

Nkechi, which is the short form of Nkechinyere originates from Igbo ethnic group in South East Nigeria and means "What God has given", "Gift of God" or "God's own".

Diallo, meaning 'bold, ' is a last name of Fula origin. Shortly after changing her name, someone created a change.org petition under the name Nkechi Amare Diallo asking the TED Talks website to post the TEDx talk given by Dolezal that year. She can not find a job, she said, and the only work she has been offered is in reality TV and porn.

Observers say her name change is an attempt to give her a new start and change her narrative to a more positive one. She should not be censored due to her unique perspective. "We want to watch this speech!" It added that some of the speakers "occasionally share ideas we don't stand behind". She goes on to reveal actual screenshots of text conversations where Dolezal routinely lamented how the white establishment oppressed her at every turn and sought to suppress her important work for the freedom of "her people". Because you know, I'm not white. "That was very painful, to feel kicked out of it. I would just be going back to when I was little, and had to be what everybody else told me I should be - to make them happy". I think it's a mix of anger and sadness really for me, because I've struggled to stay away from turning bitter. LMAOOOO! Rachel was big mad that she wasn't teaching the intercultural class. And I'm a target for anger and pain about white people from the black community.
