Samuel L. Jackson slams trend of black British actors in American films

During an interview with NY radio station Hot 97, the revered actor questioned why British actor Daniel Kaluuya was cast as the lead character in the breakout horror film Get Out, which addresses racism in the U.S.; Jackson wondered why an African-American didn't get the role.

In a radio interview on March 7, the actor said that, in these movies, there are a lot of British actors that are black, and he wondered whether there would have been a completely different feel to the movie Get Out if they had chosen to instead cast a black American actors who really feels that.

Jackson made headlines for his recent comments about black British actors being cast in African-American roles. Because Daniel grew up in a country where they've been interracial dating for a hundred years. "Some things are universal, but [not everything]".

But it's not just Kaluuya's casting Jackson took issue with, he also brought up David Oyelowo's turn as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.in "Selma". "They don't cost as much.and they (casting agents) think they're better trained, because they're classically trained".

British actor John Boyega, who famously played Finn in Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens, jumped in on Twitter, tweeting that "black brits vs African American" was a "stupid ass conflict" that nobody has time for. "Unless you're an unknown brother that they're finding somewhere", he replied. In both cases, the lead roles were filled by black British actors.

"For American actors, [the Black American experience is] already inately in us", American actor Devere Rogers, who appeared in "Grey's Anatomy", told The Guardian.

"I enjoy watching them, British actors coming here, I enjoy their work, I enjoy working with them, and I have the opportunity to do that".

The 24-year-old star - who grew up in Peckham, London - is furious with the Hollywood legend after he said black men from the United Kingdom should not be allowed to play American roles because he thinks they can't relate to the struggles African Americans have faced. We're not afforded that luxury. "I enjoy their work. And most times when we come over we got a work visa and somebody calls me two days before and tells me, 'You know you gotta go home in two days?'" DuVernay pointed this out in 2013, stating, "I think there's something about the stage, because they have that stage preparation".
