Senate confirms Trump intelligence nominee, security adviser

Fmr. Sen. Dan Coats confirmed as National Intelligence Director

Dan Coats was confirmed as the Director of National Intelligence on Wednesday afternoon. Dan Coats as director of national intelligence, making him the fifth person to hold the post created after the September 11 terror attacks.

As the Trump administration's top intelligence official, Coats will oversee 16 intelligence agencies that have, at times, been criticized by Trump, who has disparaged them for past failures and their assessment that the Kremlin interfered in the election in the president's favour.

President Trump's choice to lead the Office of National Intelligence is confirmed by his former Senate colleagues.

"Senator Coats has served the United States with great distinction". Senator Coats is a true public servant who has answered every call to serve his fellow citizens to the best of his ability. "He understands well the unique nature of intelligence work and will ensure the [intelligence community] has the legal tools and authorities needed to help keep our country safe".

Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said that he was "a little uncomfortable" that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had not yet provided lawmakers with the "proper computer technology we need to go through the evidence". He is uniquely qualified and brings a wealth of experience, incredible wit and a strong dose of Hoosier common sense.
