Tottenham may change shape against Southampton

"The injury is similar to the one suffered by the forward against Sunderland in September past year, however it is not considered to be as severe".

There were reports during the week that Kane was facing up to seven weeks on the sidelines after suffering a similar injury to the one he sustained earlier in the season. Dembele and Wanyama could shield the back four easily and Winks could bomb forward in attack.

He will miss Sunday's clash with Pochettino's former club Southampton and after the global beak Spurs face Burnley, Swansea, Watford and Bournemouth - fixtures they should win. We are very confident in our players. "I had to tell him we don't play today, the game is on Sunday".

Kane's injury comes at a crunch time of the season for Pochettino's side, who are now second in the Premier League in what is turning out to be a tight fight for a place in the top four.

The striker has scored 19 Premier League goals this season.

"It's true that in some period of the season his form was down", Pochettino said. "That was hard because we lost Harry Kane for seven or eight weeks and I remember that one of the best performances was without Harry Kane against Manchester City at home, 2-0", Pochettino pointed out.

While Spurs beat City without Kane in October, they failed to win any of their following six matches in his absence. We must not make excuses but try to score goals and win games. We have improved a lot since then. We'll see but we hope that yes, as soon as possible he will be available again.

Tottenham welcome Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs have won their last two games in the league and haven't lost in over a month, while their visitors have also won back-to-back matches in the division, scoring four times in each.

Wanyama switched to Tottenham from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £11 million. After manager Mauricio Pochettino's hard-working style-of-play revolutionised the North London outfit in last season's third place finish, nothing less than a serious title challenge would be acceptable this time around.
