5 children hurt when bounce houses go airborne in South Carolina

SC authorities say a bounce house was lifted into the air by a gust of wind, sending several children to the hospital, the AP reports.

Children in Greenville, South Carolina, lined up for rides at Springwell Church's annual Spring Carnival last week.

The weather was relatively calm on Saturday afternoon when a SC church was holding its annual spring carnival that usually features inflatables, games and food.

All five children were transported to an area hospital, officials said, and the severity of their injuries was not immediately clear.

Amanda Reger commented that two of her children were injured in the incident. The children were attending the church carnival when the accident occurred. A witness to the incident reportedly said that she was there to help the children out of the inflatable once it touched ground again.

According to Springwell Church, the church was hosting a festival when a gust of wind picked up the bounce house. The power lines weren't live when they went down, he added. They were able to respond before fire crews arrived, Reed said.

An unexpected wind gust, out of our control, lifted an inflatable amusement that was on our campus for the event.

Reed said the power line had a safety mechanism that deactivated the electricity when it was hit.

David Pearson, operations pastor at the church, posted a statement on Facebook. "There's no telling what would have happened", said Chief Reed.

'We join their families, in prayer, for their full recovery'. "Try to bring it to the ground, and it just took us up and took us into the power line and broke all the power lines".
