Airstrike on Syrian town hit by chemical weapons kills 1

The Latest: Rouhani wants impartial investigation on Syria

"It has nothing to do with it", he said. A US missile attack on Friday, April 7, 2017 has caused heavy damage to one of Syria's biggest and most strategic air bases, used to launch warplanes to strike opposition-held areas in central, northern and southern Syria.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. "Iran believed and continues to do so that terrorists gathered from all across the region and beyond in Syria must be eradicated", the Mehr news agency cited him as saying.

Immediately upon the closing of registration, the 12-member Guardian Council, a body that oversees elections and legislation, will vet applicants from April 16 to April 20.

Homs governor Talal Barrazi told state news agency SANA that the number of fighters should reach more than 400 before sunset Saturday.

He argued that the Iranian society has become more open during his presidency - including universities, which came under intense pressure during the presidency of Rohani's predecessor, President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

"It is up to the Syrian Army to deal a devastating blow to the terrorists and undermine the U.S. ambitions".

The death toll from an air strike on Saturday on the ISIS-held town of Urum al-Joz in Idlib province rose to 19 people, including six children, activists and residents said.

One of the banners they carried read: "The Iraqi scenario will not be repeated in Syria". "Repeating it might lead to risky consequences", he warned.

"What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines".

President Rouhani noted that Iran-Russia-Turkey cooperation is focused on the success of Astana peace talks, while Iran-Russia-Syria cooperation is concerned with fighting terrorism on the ground; "During my recent visit to Moscow as well the telephone conversation with President Putin, we agreed on more coordination about the operations in Syria", he added.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson cancelled a planned trip to Russian Federation because of fast-moving events in Syria.

On Friday, the USA carried out its first military action against Bashar al-Assad's government since the start of Syria's six-year war.

Allies of President Bashar al-Assad's regime on Sunday threatened reprisals against any party that carries out "aggression" against Syria.

He had planned to travel to Russia Monday on a trip meant to start a fresh dialogue with Moscow.

Iranian state television reports that Rouhani warned that the US missile strike may cause an increase in extremism in the region. Johnson said Tillerson will be able to give a "clear and coordinated message to the Russians".

Elsewhere in Syria, activists opposed to the Islamic State group said a US -led coalition airstrike hit a boat carrying civilians fleeing across the Euphrates River.
