Astros top Royals 5-4 on Gattis' bases-loaded walk in 12th

Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals- 4/7/17 MLB Pick Odds and Prediction

Vargas got his first win in almost two years and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 5-1. Christian Colón and Drew Butera will get their first action of the season.

Royals went on to win the game 7 to 3. Kansas City finally broke out when a two-run double by Alex Gordon in the eighth inning put the Royals up by four.

Salvador Perez had a solo home run in the second inning, turning on Mike Fiers' 89-mph fastball for a lined shot onto the train tracks behind the left field foul pole.

Kansas City is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 8-23 in their last 31 against the AL West while the over is 4-1-2 in their last 7 road games. Gordon delivered a two-run double in the eighth inning on Friday night.

Astros: LHP Dallas Keuchel (1-0) threw seven scoreless innings in his first start, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four against Seattle. After Beltran's hit, however, the Royals went to the bullpen and escaped the inning with the lead intact. Brad Brach struck out the side in the eighth and Zach Britton got three consecutive outs for his second save. Despite missing almost 1 1/2 years, Vargas has six shutouts since the start of 2011, which is tied for eighth most in the major leagues and trails only Felix Hernandez, Derek Holland and James Shields (seven each) among those who have pitched exclusively in the American League during that stretch.

Royals manager Ned Yost got all the confirmation he needed on Kansas City right-hander Nate Karns during spring training, enough to express an unwavering confidence in Karns as he prepares to make his first start on Sunday.

The game would remain tied until the 12th inning when Evan Gattis would end the game on bases loaded walk. Kansas City has won the last 4 matchups in Houston. With his solo home run in the third inning, Astros C Brian McCann pulled to within five homers of tying Roy Campanella for 10th place in major league history for homers by a catcher. Cuthbert was the only one to have multiple hits, but along with Hosmer and Perez, belted a hit over the fence for a home run. He is 3-for-8 with a home run and two walks.

BREWERS 2, CUBS 1 (11) Ryan Braun scored from third base on a wild pitch in the 11th inning to give Milwaukee a victory over Chicago.
