Boris Johnson cancels Russian Federation trip after USA air strikes in Syria

The strike came a day after the United States bombarded a Syrian airbase that had launched the chemical attack in Idlib, to send Bashar al-Assad's regime a "message".

"Given repeated Russian blocking in the United Nations security council, the U.S. was determined to act, ' Fallon said, adding President Trump made 'the right call by resorting to careful and narrowly focused military action".

"He won't stop here". "In order to protect the most sensitive objects of the Syrian infrastructure, a system of measures to bolster and increase the effectiveness of the Syrian armed forces' air defense systems will be implemented", ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement carried on state media.

A Palestinian demonstrator holds a placard with a poster depicting Syria's President Bashar al-Assad during a protest against American airstrikes in Syria, in the West Bank city of Nablus April 9.

"You pick and choose your battles and when we're looking at this, it's about changing up priorities and our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out", Haley had told reporters on March 30, just days before dozens of Syrian civilians died from chemical weapons injuries.

After last Tuesday's chemical attack in Syria, Trump said his attitude toward Assad "has changed very much" and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said "steps are underway" to organize a coalition to remove him from power.

He said that the Russian support for the Assad regime is deplorable, even after the suspected chemical attack.

"Congress needs to work with the president to try and deal with this long-term strategy, lack of strategy, really, in Syria", he said.

"I think, as you saw with the strike, that there has to be a degree of simultaneous activity as well as sequencing of the defeat of ISIS first", McMaster said.

The Kremlin meanwhile said Russia's president, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani, his Iranian counterpart, agreed in a telephone call that that USA aggression against Syria was not permissible and violated global law.

Administration officials insisted Friday that their overall policy hadn't changed and that the strike was only meant to convey that chemical weapons are unacceptable.

Blitzer mentioned that the U.S. military also shared an image of a radar track of a Syrian airplane from the Shayrat airfield flying to the purported chemical strike area Tuesday.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has said "terrorists are celebrating" the U.S. strikes on the air base.

"There's responsibility that goes around", Gabbard said, "Standing here pointing fingers does not accomplish peace for the Syrian people".

The attack earned bipartisan praise, but Congress now wants to sign off on further strategy in Syria.
