Carter Page Wiki: The Mystery of Donald Trump's Ex-Foreign Policy Adviser

The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor Page's communications because the government had reason to believe Page was acting as a Russian agent, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

According to the Post, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department convinced a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was sufficient evidence suggesting that Page could be acting as a Russian agent to authorize electronic surveillance in the heat of the 2016 presidential race. This was after convincing a Judge from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, of the possibility of a reason to believe Page was playing the role of an agent to a foreign power, who is Russian Federation in this case.

The FBI has evidence against Carter Page, a former Foreign Policy Adviser to Donald Trump, stating that Page was in touch with Russian agents during Trump's campaign.

Page is one of at least four former Trump campaign advisers who are said to be at the center of the FBI's investigation.

"It wasn't Paul Manafort", Mr. Page told CNN, referring to the former Trump campaign manager who has also been the subject of intense scrutiny over his own Russian Federation connections.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, first unveiled the news of the unmasking in a short presser last month, where he later briefed the White House on the find.

"You have to lay out a series of facts that show that there's probable cause to believe that someone is an agent of a foreign power", Carlin said, speaking in general and not about any specific case.

Page also said he spoke to no Russian officials when he was there last summer. The application claimed that Page had been in contact with Russian spies since 2013, connecting Page with Victor Podobnyy, a Russian citizen the US Justice Department has accused of being an agent of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service.

It's premature to say whether the Justice Department investigation will uncover illegal activity.

CNN and the New York Times have reported that there were frequent contacts between Trump associates and Russian operatives during the campaign. Fairly soon Mr Trump's campaign began to disavow him. "If they are looking for Carter Page, they will not tell anyone they're looking for him, not even the court".

"It will be interesting to see what comes out when the unjustified basis for those FISA requests are more fully disclosed over time", said Page, using an acronym to refer to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

The Trump administration has called Page's role "informal", and Page has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

But months later Page was disavowed by the campaign, apparently in part because of the attention drawn by his trips to Moscow, which he said involved private business.

"Well, I have been very forthcoming that I want to get as much information out there as possible and that has stood from the very beginning", Page said, adding that he looked forward to "really supporting this ongoing process".

Days later, Page talked with Russia's ambassador to the U.S.at an event on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention. One official suggested that Page approached Clovis directly, but multiple sources now say that Lewandowski was the conduit. "I can assure you of that", Carter told Tapper.

The extent of Page's influence within the Trump campaign is unclear.
