Dubnyk, Wild beat Blues 2-0 to avoid elimination

Consider that St. Louis allowed one goal in the playoffs a year ago just five times in 20 games (as we know, Allen and the Blues are 3-for-3 in 2017).

No brooms were necessary except to clean the arena.

It was Anderson's fourth career playoff shutout.

St. Louis goalie Jake Allen was considered one of the bigger question marks in net. "That's a playoff series, though".

The Blues have managed to win their first three straight games over Minnesota, so there's no immediate need to see the veteran return to the ice.

An extremely slow start by the Blues, who didn't register their first shot until midway through the opening period, helped contribute to the defeat. For as much as everyone perceives the Wild dominated game 1, the statistics suggest that this "dominance" should only have produced one extra goal. Furthermore, with one or two exceptions, every Wild rush in the series has been corralled to the wings by the sizable Blues defensemen. The Blues come into today's game 49-29-7 overall and 25-12-5 at home while the Wild are 49-27-9 overall and 22-14-6 on the road. We've got to find ways to score, whatever it is. (The energy) was there in the third, it just wasn't there in the start. "Anytime we need a save, a whistle, he's there". Allen, who came into the series 3-5 all-time in the postseason, has allowed fewer than three goals in 15 of his last 19 starts and turned aside 40 shots in the Game 3 victory.

Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was also in the vicinity as the puck found a path to the net. "Lucky they had a guy there".

Allen was asked if he felt the play could have been icing.

"Yeah, there were some finicky calls there for the icings tonight on both sides", Allen said.

Allen's playoff performance is a far cry from a awful span from December 8 to January 31, when he was 4-10-0 with a 3.50 goals-against average and a.876 save percentage. He allowed two goals on 28 shots, but failed to get any offensive support from his teammates. "And obviously, playoffs right now, whether it's the overtimes or teams that are so-called underdogs being on top now, it's pretty obvious that there's an very bad lot of parity in this league". Steen hasn't been practicing, but Yeo said he will play Wednesday. We have to do the same thing [in Game 5] Saturday, because everybody in this room still believes we can do it.

"I don't think there's anybody in the league that goes into a game feeling comfortable against the opponent that they're playing", Blues coach Mike Yeo said.

"It's going to sound like I'm complaining now, but I do like the old way better, because one division could have a lot more points than the other division", Parise told the Pioneer Press.

The Wild's Charlie Coyle (3) controls the puck as St. Louis Blues' Colton Parayko defends during the first period Wednesday.

Minnesota almost stretched its lead to 2-0 in the second period following a turnover right in front of the net by Pietrangelo.

Allen has left an impression with the Wild. It was Hanzal's first goal of the series. "And that's gonna be the same thing on Saturday, because if not, it's over, and we're not gonna think any further ahead than that", Dubnyk said. "They still have a tremendous advantage up three games to one".

"Shutouts always feel good and I felt really good tonight", Dubnyk said. "It's still going to be an uphill battle".
