Duterte fires Cabinet member over alleged wrongdoing

Reuters

The Philippine Star on April 3 reported that Sueno was at loggerheads with three of his undersecretaries who accused him of corruption and other abuses, that, among others, he built a hotel in Koronadal City, purchased trucks for his rice business, tried to intervene to clear a mayor from Misamis Occidental who was on the narco list, that he allowed the purchase of fire trucks at P20 million each or nearly thrice what could have been purchased at P7 million.

Mr Sueno said he was being badmouthed by three junior ministers in the Department of the Interior and Local Government. I share with President Duterte the same belief and commitment Sueno said at the flag-raising ceremony Monday.

Mr Abella said the president checked those accusations before he chose to dismiss Mr Sueno.

Mr. Cuy said that he considers his new appointment an "honor" and an "opportunity".

"I am taking the responsibilities given to me by President Duterte seriously, and I commit to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the DILG and its constituent agencies in the spirit of absolute fairness, unity, and dedication to public service", Cuy said. He is also a former police chief of Davao city and head of the Special Action Force.

Cuy served in the PNP national directorate. He is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1981. They were all fined in amounts equivalent to a month's salary.

"For me, I believe in Secretary Sueno and his dismissal saddens me", Davide said.

Cuy was one of the DILG undersecretaries before he was named as OIC.

Sueno's firing capped a tiff with three undersecretaries - John Castriciones, Jesus Hinlo and Emillie Padilla, all members of the MRRDNECC - that went public. He did not answer text messages. But MindaNews sources said Sueno was in the meeting when Duterte announced his decision. There were reports however that another ranking official is set to be axed by Duterte.

Sueno is the second major Cabinet official to be dismissed due to allegations of corruption. It is his call if he wants me in his Cabinet or not.

Sueno said the President must have been misinformed. "So I said, 'You're fired.' I just simply said, "You're fired". Antonio Trillanes IV is concerned, the Duterte administration is slowly being eaten up by corrupt officials and embedded communist traitors.

More than 7,000 people have been killed in "summary executions" since Duterte began his war on drugs last June, Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo said during a meeting at the U.N. Commission on Drugs in March.

"What I'm saying corruption is rampant now".

Sueno's ouster is seen as Duterte's strongest statement yet, and comes shortly after an opposition lawmaker filed impeachment charges against Duterte due to alleged graft and corruption.

"From what I've known of him and I've also had some friends who've known him, Sueno is a decent man".
