Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Vin Diesel have "different fundamental philosophies"

Can you imagine a world where Vin Diesel wasn't part of the "Fast and the Furious" family? We will not hide it, the last scene with Paul Walker was more than intense, when his auto and that of Vin Diesel separate on "See You Again", nobody could console us.

The Fast & Furious movie franchise got a new director with The Fate of the Furious, so who's behind the camera for the eighth installment that opens Friday? Fill your NOS tanks, grab yourself a Corona, and prepare to race through this list a quarter mile at a time.

Paul Walker wasn't the first choice to play Brian O'Conner. The film series has spanned 16 years and over sixteen hours of action and characters. Of course, they're still well enough to shoot the bad guy seconds after landing.




There is no extra scene after the movie ends. (Even then, the action is choreographed in a way where Diesel and Johnson don't share a shot.) The heist sequence culminates with a stunt: Dom goes rogue, smashes into the auto Hobbs is driving to flip it, and then saunters over to the wreck to steal the EMP device while Hobbs is trapped helplessly inside. That alone wouldn't have been enough for this moment to make this list, but the aftermath is where things get totally outlandish. The crew, including the newly added Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) are not about to accept Dom's change of loyalty easily, and set out to find out just what Cipher is up to, and the hold she has over their friend.

With Letty's apparent death in Fast and Furious, Dom is a single man once more, and in the subsequent film, he hooks up with Brazilian police officer Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), and the pair are living together at the beginning of Fast & Furious 6.

Given how nimbly the series has reinvented itself to outpace franchise fatigue thus far, hopefully Fast 9 (Furious 9?) might follow through on that potential, and even if not, there's a solid chance it'll still be breezy, dumb fun regardless.
