Gallup Poll: Fewer Voters Think Trump Will Deliver On His Campaign Promises

According to a Gallup poll out Monday only 45% of respondents said the commander-in-chief was keeping his promises

A majority of people in the U.S.no longer believe that President Trump keeps his promises, according to a Gallup survey released Monday.

The view that Trump is a "strong and decisive leader" also fell, from 59 to 52 percent, and the expectation that he can deliver the "changes this country needs" dipped to 46 percent from 53 percent. The results mark a 17-point decline from February, when 62% of Americans trusted the president to keep his promises. Core consumer price index inflation showed its first decline since January 2010, retail sales have slipped the past two months, and a variety of "hard data" points have slumped. In February, a majority also said Trump can bring about the changes the country needs, but less than half hold that view now.

Trump has always had problems with the public believing he is "honest and trustworthy". The poll's margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

The polling company highlighted that "this is the first time the president's overall approval rating has been back in the 50s in almost a month".

And Trump's two travel bans - both implemented via executive order - were each blocked by federal courts deeming them unconstitutional.

The results come as Republicans in Congress and President Donald Trump's administration work to enact tax reform.

"Supporters have expressed unhappiness that more has not been done on taxes and immigration, in addition to healthcare", Norman said. "Opponents say he has not protected middle- and working-class Americans".

"Reality has intruded and it's clear he's finding it more hard to do a lot of the things he promised", said Frank Newport, editor-in-chief of the Gallup Poll. In February, 65 percent of women thought Trump kept his promises.

Most Americans have viewed Trump unfavourably since before his inauguration and continue to do so almost 90 days into his term in office.

The numbers for that characteristic could still shift for Trump as his presidency continues. He lost ground with Democrats, independents, and Republicans.
