'Hit Him 25 Times': Sena MP Admits Assaulting Air India Staffer

Gaikwad also said that he has had no conversation with his party chief Uddhav Thackeray since the incident and added that he has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker and Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathy Raju regarding the incident. We do not have powers to ban anyone. "When we talk about probity in public life, or certain kind of restrain, it stems from your leadership, and if you are MP, MLA, corporator, even a Panchayat Samiti member, you should show some kind of restrain to your position and your electorate", she said.

According to The Times of India, The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) - an umbrella organisation representing IndiGo, Jet Airways, SpiceJet and GoAir - is planning to bar the MP from flying in their planes.

Earlier, the Centre also took cognisance of the incident and assured a thorough probe into the matter. Mr Gaikwad refused to disembark despite attempts of persuading him to do so.

"I will not apologise". It was not my fault, it was his fault. Both FIRs have been lodged with the Delhi Police. Their bosses should take serious action against erring legislators and law must take its own course.

The MP from Osmanabad in Maharashtra also downplayed reports suggesting that Air India is considering banning him from boarding its flights.

A party spokesperson, however, said Gaikwad was not a person who would jump into such a thing and it was necessary to know what made him lose his temper.

"I have the tickets, they can't blacklist me".

Meanwhile, AI's no-nonsense chairman Ashwani Lohani late on Thursday night said in a Facebook post: "One MP assaulted an Air Indian at Delhi just because the aircraft did not have executive class".

"Will the Shiv Sena sack this MP and if they do not sack him it means that they agree with the action and they justify his actions", he said.

Gaikwad was travelling from Pune to New Delhi when the scuffle broke out over the sitting arrangement.

Upset at being seated in the economy section of an aircraft with no business seats, Gaikwad had beaten up an Air India staffer "25 times" with his sandals and tried to throw him out of the aircraft on arrival in Delhi Thursday.
