Indian envoy meets Pak foreign secy, seeks copy of charge sheet, verdict

Pakistan asks India to behave responsibly over Kulbhushan Yadav's issue Sartaj

Amid tensions over death sentence being awarded to former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, India has called off maritime security dialogue with Pakistan, scheduled for early next week.

With Pakistan repeatedly rejecting India's attempt for consular access to alleged spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, annual talks between Indian Coast Guard and Pakistan Maritime Agency has been cancelled due to current state of development between the two countries, reports said on Saturday.

The two countries had approved dialogue between PMSA and Indian Coast Guard in a sign that they were looking to break the stalemate caused by the attack past year on an Indian army camp in J&K Uri.

Expressing disappointment over Pakistan turning down India's request for consular access to Jadhav, the Indian envoy said, "They have denied our request for consular access 13 times (in the last one year)". India has denied any such allegations and has said that he is an innocent India, who has been kidnapped by Pakistan.

The military said in a statement that Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel, originally a naval commander, had confessed to spying for Indian intelligence agency - Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). According to the dossier, the leaders of the network were "involved in espionage activities, by providing secret information/sketches regarding Army installations and officials to foreign agents"- but primarily for Iran, not India.

The Advisor said that a number of steps were taken during Jadhav's trial to ensure transparency under Pakistani law and Pakistan Army Act.

According to the report, Pakistan police has said that the main suspect Khalil had visited Kashmir in November 2014, where he came in contact with RAW officials.

Aziz said Jadhav can appeal against the verdict of the military tribunal within 40 days to a military Appellate Court. He has been accused of "involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan".

While Janjua has rejected India's demand for consular access to Jadhav on the ground that it was a case of espionage, New Delhi maintains that it must be granted under worldwide law. "Most of those hanged in India, or on death row presently are dalits, adivasis, religious minorities, Kashmiris", Mr Khalid said.

The Indian side also conveyed that it will appeal the order.
