Man accused of holding woman to appear in court

Dennis Dunn believed to have mental health issues was charged with kidnapping

Police in OH say a crying woman was being held captive in a pit inside her neighbor's backyard shed, and the man was arrested on a charge of kidnapping. The pit was about 3-and-a-half feet deep and 2 feet in diameter. Her mother reported her missing just hours before she was found inside the hole, which was covered with wood and other heavy objects, WLWT reports. Police estimate that Elliott had been trapped for two to three hours. She was taken to the hospital and released.

Dennis Dunn, from OH, who reportedly has a catalogue of mental health issues, has been charged with her kidnap.

In an unusually public step for law enforcement, the Blanchester police chief tied Dunn's alleged actions to what he called a "failure" of Ohio's mental health care system.

He is scheduled to appear at 10 a.m.in Clinton County Municipal Court in Wilmington. Reinbolt said Dunn came to his front door at around 8 a.m. and was arrested without a struggle and no shots were fired.

It appears Jennifer Elliott was not a random victim. The report described the pit in Dunn's shed as being "a well hole". At 4 a.m., police responded to a home nearby when a neighbor said they heard cries from a shed on the property.

Authorities have since charged Dennis Dunn, 45, with kidnapping and say he also faces recent charges of disorderly conduct and drug possession. He was disarmed without incident and involuntarily admitted for a psychological evaluation at an area hospital, but later released.

Police said it would have been impossible for the victim to get out.

A neighbor, Emily Noe, told the News Journal she couldn't imagine Dunn doing this. He was taken to a mental health provider in order to receive that treatment.

He was released after 24 hours. Neighbors say she was inside old well. On April 2, neigbors called police after Dunn was seen brandishing a pistol in the yard of his home.

When the police were at Dunn's house early this morning, his father showed up and apologized to the police for his son's behavior.

The missing 30-year-old woman had been trapped inside an "old well" that was located underneath a shed. Even with his past unusual behavior and numerous arrests, this incident still surprised many who know Dennis Dunn.

Police sought a search warrant to go through Dunn's home. He awaits a court appearance Thursday on a felony kidnapping charge.
