Microsoft already fixed the 'Shadow Brokers' exploits on supported versions of Windows

Hundreds of megabytes worth of sophisticated hacking tools purportedly stolen from the National Security Agency became publicly available Friday, triggering security experts across the globe to sound alarms as the USA government's weaponized software exploits seemingly entered the wild.

There are trillions of dollars per day that get transferred through SWIFT, with over 11,000 banks and securities organizations in over 200 countries using SWIFT.

EastNets, one of the two services bureaus exposed in the leak and allegedly infiltrated by the NSA, released a statement denying it had been hacked.

Experts have been reviewing the latest Shadow Brokers release and one of the more unsafe findings is evidence of exploiting the SWIFT banking transaction system.

"The reports of an alleged hacker-compromised EastNets Service Bureau network is totally false and unfounded", a spokesperson said.

"We can confirm that no EastNets customer data has been compromised in any way".

PARIS (AP) - Up-to-date Microsoft customers are safe from the purported National Security Agency spying tools dumped online, the software company said Saturday, tamping down fears that the digital arsenal was poised to wreak havoc across the internet.

Swift said that it had no evidence that its main network had ever been accessed without authorisation, Reuters reported on Friday. They did admit, however, that it was possible that the local networking systems of some individual SWIFT users may have been breached.

Swift was successfully targeted by hackers past year when criminals stole $81m from the Bangladeshi central bank.

The group Friday appeared to release tools created to target Windows PCs and servers, along with presentations and files purporting to detail the agency's methods of carrying out clandestine surveillance. That does mean that older Windows XP or Windows Vista systems could still be vulnerable to three of the exploits released, but it's unlikely that Microsoft will supply patches for these older versions of Windows as they're already unsupported. In a blog post, he said it appeared that thousands of employee accounts and machines from EastNets' offices had been compromised and that financial institutions in Kuwait, Bahrain and the Palestinian territories had been targeted for espionage. One such researcher, Matthew Hickey (known as "Hacker Fantastic") later noted that his tests were run on a fresh install of Windows - in other words, it was missing March's patches - which as a result he later discounted.

The tools were announced on Friday by a group calling itself "The Shadow Brokers".

The documents appear to show that the NSA compromised the Dubai office of the anti-money laundering and financial services firm EastNets.

The hacked tools alarmed famous United States whistleblower Edward Snowden, who first uncovered the extent of NSA's illegal spying in 2013.

The BBC is not able to verify the authenticity of the files - and the NSA has not commented on the leak.

"Maybe if all surviving WWIII, The Shadow Brokers be seeing you next week".

Earlier Friday, Microsoft had said the company had not been warned by the government or other outsiders about the stolen programs. But Microsoft, which initially stated only that it was investigating the matter, added on late Friday night that it already patched most of the vulnerabilities.
