Nintendo Switch is Nintendo's Fastest Selling Console in History

While the PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One, the newly released Nintendo Switch swept them both under the rug, taking the number one spot for console sales. That means the gaming machine "sold faster in its launch month than any other video game system in Nintendo history", according to Nintendo. That is generally true, though there are some exceptions, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and the Nintendo Wii U. It seems that Nintendo is making up for lost time and sales with the Nintendo Switch.

NPD Group also tracked the critically-acclaimed game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which sold over 1.3 million units for the Switch and the Wii U combined.

Breath of the Wild is the fastest-selling Nintendo launch title ever and the fastest-selling Zelda title across its entire 30-year history. Among them, we have Minecraft, Splatoon 2, and of course Mario Kart.

Breath of the Wild quickly became one of the highest-reviewed games of all time when it launched with the Switch, which made everyone want to play it immediately. If so, what games have you bought for it? The Switch dock is now the only official way to connect the device to your TV, and many users have been looking for ways to pick up additional ones in order to let them move their console between televisions within their house.

This sounds vaguely and unnervingly familiar (sorry NES Classic fans), though we've got at least a solid five months left to Switch's lifespan if today's events are any indication.

But hey, Minecraft is coming to Switch with a Super Mario Mash-Up pack and new multiplayer play and control options. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is launching on April 28th, while ARMS and Splatoon 2 are headed to the console this summer. The "Splatoon 2" release date and the game's new Amiibo were announced during the tech giant's online presentation Nintendo Direct.

Now, if only Nintendo released a battery pack for the Switch itself.

Highlights from Nintendo's other Switch game-related announcements include Disgaea 5 Complete debuting May 23; Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers landing on May 26; and news about Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, and Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition becoming available later this year.
