Portland's Nurkic out Game 2, Warriors' Durant questionable

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, left, and forward Kevin Durant (35) celebrate during the second half of Game 1 of a first-round NBA basketball playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers in Oakland, Calif., Sun.

The intrigue surrounding which players would be healthy enough to play in Game One of the first round series between the Trail Blazers and Warriors was mostly centered around Portland center Jusuf Nurkić.

The Golden State Warriors figured out how to win during a long stretch without Kevin Durant once.

Coach Terry Stotts will be satisfied with whatever gets his players going. They took every opportunity to switch Curry onto another weapon, even if it was a bigger wing, knowing they wouldn't get the ball anyway. He was all over the place, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out 9 assists, while also playing excellent defense during the most important stretch and adding 3 steals and 5 blocks to the cause.

"I didn't say that", Iguodala said.

"For me, it's just going to make me raise the level of my game because I take [Green's trash talk] as a challenge", Lillard said.

To their credit, the crowd did that, but as is their wont now that the bar of stimulus has been raised to Andean heights, they waited until the Warriors changed their game with a Green-inspired defensive blitz that turned a no-limit-raise poker game into a standard evening out.

Lillard and McCollum put up 75 combined points against Golden State, but to no avail. "At some point you have to make them miss" Green said after the game.

They brought the whirlwind that usually shows up right after halftime while the customers are settling up their tabs, and despite the seven- or eight-minute delay, they got all the noise that their crowd could give them. So we knew we had to come out and get stops if we were ever going to pull away in that game. So, for all we know, questionable could be probable. But if he's facing guards who can effectively handle, he turns into a liability, which gets exponentially worse if they're athletic and can shoot from range.

It doesn't seem likely that McCollum and Lillard will be this good again in Game 2 Wednesday night; and it seems extremely probable that Curry and Thompson will be livelier and more productive in the next one and the one after that.

"At this time, I can not comment on anything regarding free agency under league rules", general manager Bob Myers said in an email Monday, "but I will say it pleases me to know that our players, in general, enjoy playing for our team and are happy to be a part of our organization".
