Serbia sweep into Davis Cup semi-finals

Djokovic says elbow healed looking to return to competition

Zimonjic and Troicki prevailed 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-0 4-6 6-2 in front of a noisy home crowd as Serbia's talismanic team leader Novak Djokovic watched from the sidelines after beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the opening singles rubber on Friday.

Novak Djokovic spearheads Serbia's bid to reach the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 2013 and reboot a career which has stalled since his history-making French Open victory.

With the U.S. boasting a team of in-form Jack Sock, John Isner, Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson, Hewitt will be banking on two wins from the mercurial Kyrgios as his second singles player is the inexperienced world number 79 Jordan Thompson.

Viktor Troicki brushed aside Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-4 6-3 in Friday's second singles.

Serbia have earned an unassailable 3-0 lead over Spain in the Davis Cup quarter-finals at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall here.

"Jordan (Thompson) played great yesterday, he deserved to win, he was the better player", said Sock.

Having won a 12th successive singles rubber in the tournament on Friday to set Serbia on their way to this weekend's quarter-final victory against Spain, the 12-time major victor is crucial to his country's hopes of returning to the final for the first time since 2013.

Victory gave 40-year-old playing-captain Zimonjic, who has not missed a Davis Cup tie for a decade, a 30th win in the tournament.

"I am very happy with my performance today which is very encouraging because I now know I am on the right path to discovering my best form", Djokovic said.

Serbia, victor of Davis Cup in 2010, will on September play its fourth semifinals in eight years, in an away match against France who defeated Britain. In his doubles win with Julien Benneteau against Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot, Mahut fired this ball back FROM THE STANDS.

Belgium leads their quarterfinal 2-0 at home on an indoor hard court in Charleroi.

Since completing the much-coveted "Career Slam" at the French Open past year, Djokovic has been a shadow of himself.

"I'm still very emotional out there. That's their strength, they have 10 players they can rotate and are unsafe on any surface".

On the other side of the World Group draw, Sunday singles will decide the two ties. We will be out to do battle against one of the best Davis Cup nations.
