Trump Puts China In A Bind With Strikes During President's Visit

Mr Trump is hosting the Chinese president for a two-day visit at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

The comments come as the two leaders wrapped up a Florida summit, and signal a U-turn from his anti-China rhetoric on the campaign trail a year ago.

The National Security Council has presented U.S. President Donald Trump with options on how to respond North Korea's advancing nuclear program.

They also pledged to make progress on trade negotiations in the next 100 days, an indication that economic issues will figure prominently in the Trump administration's ties with China, which are burdened by a multibillion-dollar U.S. trade deficit.

"President Trump noted the challenges caused by Chinese government intervention in its economy and raised serious concerns about the impact of China's industrial, agricultural, technology, and cyber policies on United States jobs and exports", it said. The strike group, which includes an aircraft carrier, will make its way from Singapore toward the peninsula, a U.S. official told Reuters on Saturday.

"The relationship developed by President Xi and myself I think is outstanding".

The two sides need to further enhance their relationship so as to better serve the two countries and their peoples, and to promote world peace and prosperity, Xi said.

The Yomiuri ShimbunIt is not enough if the US and Chinese leaders - both of whom have a responsibility to stabilize the worldwide situation and the world economy - only engaged in staging amicable bilateral relations from start to finish.

He agreed to visit China at a later date, implying the two men had built up a rapport.

For China, these two concessions are not so burdensome. "That's the first time I've heard them say that in a bilateral context", he said.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said the U.S. military strike against Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons was a warning to other countries including North Korea that "a response is likely" if they pose a danger. A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said early this month the nation was "ready for war" with the United States.

China, the US, South Korea and Japan all have dedicated envoys who meet regularly to discuss the North Korean issue: a legacy of the long-stalled six-party process that also involved Pyongyang and Moscow. Trump repeatedly bashed China on the campaign trail and upon taking office, blaming it for the loss of American jobs, reports Politico news.

Trump accepted Xi's invitation to China later this year, state news agency Xinhua news agency cited officials as saying yesterday.

The U.S. announced the missile barrage shortly after Trump and Xi wrapped up dinner yesterday.

The attack could also be a message to China that the USA may act on its own unless China reins in the North.

North Korea is believed to be developing missiles capable of hitting the United States and a nuclear arsenal in defiance of UN sanctions. Beijing is building and fortifying islands in pursuit of expansive territorial claims in the strategic waterway.
