Trump signs bill blocking online privacy regulation

They said polls suggest 91 percent of Americans feel they already have given up too much of their personal data. Comcast is also planning to revise its existing privacy policy to ensure the privacy issues are adequately addressed.

Verizon also will do the same.

Verizon chief privacy officer Karen Zacharia similarly declared, "Verizon does not sell the personal web browsing history of our customers".

Congress in America voted to approve legislation making it legal for Internet service providers to collect and sell customers' web browsing histories to third-party marketers. The other program "provides aggregate insights that might be useful for advertisers and other businesses".

The vote was a win for all the ISP's.

Congress last month approved the resolution to repeal the privacy rules.

President Donald Trump on Monday officially repealed federal privacy protections imposed a year ago on the likes of AT&T, Charter, Comcast and Verizon. Websites do not need the same affirmative consent.

Now, the House-passed bill paves the way for internet providers to sell users' web browsing history.

AT&T says in its privacy statement it "will not sell your personal information to anyone, for any objective".

In his own blog post, Bob Quinn, AT&T senior executive vice president of external and legislative affairs, stressed that customers will continue to be protected under the company's privacy policies once Trump signs the bill into law.

Considering AT&T have been caught using a "discount" as an excuse to track browsing history for advertising purposes, perhaps it shouldn't be scolding anyone for assuming it doesn't have consumers' best interests at heart. Such practice is not new.

The amendment prohibits ISPs from collecting information about internet users without the customer's written consent and from denying service to any customer that refuses to give that consent. According to Republicans, this will offer the websites with the ability to harvest more data than the internet providers.

President Donald Trump just signed a bill that will roll back proposed restrictions on the sale of your private browsing information.

"Consumers should feel confident that the steps taken today won't change anything other than clearing the path for regulators to institute uniform privacy rules that will keep their sensitive information private and secure", said Jonathan Spalter, the CEO of USTelecom.
