TV news reporter axed over viral blooper

In the video, Natasha is waiting for a prerecorded segment to finish but forgot that she was back on camera.

The ABC has since denied this ever happened.

Natasha Exelby was presenting an evening bulletin on ABC on Saturday when the now-viral-moment took place. "Myself and my mesmerising pen honourably salute you!" the presenter wrote on Twitter today.

While the reaction was overwhelmingly supportive and in good humour, it seemed the public broadcaster didn't find it that amusing, as news circulated that Exelby had been taken off the on air roster.

Natasha Exelby made the world laugh yesterday when her on-air blooper went viral.

And now a legion of supporters have blasted ABC for its "ridiculous, humourless overreaction" to the TV presenter's on-air blooper.

Clearly shocked and taken by surprise, she lets out a loud gasp, eyes wide open and throws down the pen.

She recovered well and has since scored a new fan base.

However, the ABC released a statement a short time ago, insisting Exelby's lack of future newsreading shifts had nothing to do with the events of the weekend.

The story Newsreader's hilarious reaction to being caught "daydreaming" on-air first appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald. I screw up so often during test shoots that it's a miracle we can cobble something together for a complete video. If that is the case ABC Management need to get a grip this is amusing a teeny slip up and for a journo who has spent the last 12mths reporting from war ravaged countries surely a tiny bit of slack could go Natasha's way!
