USA, Canada, Mexico Reportedly Will Submit Joint Bid for 2026 World Cup

Canada Mexico and the United States have officially announced a joint bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Soccer bosses in the United States, Mexico and Canada plan to "rise above" the policies and rhetoric of President Donald Trump and launch a joint bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

"Canada, the US and Mexico are aiming for a joint bid, the idea has been around for a while, discussions are continuing and it is a very exciting proposition if it comes to fruition", Montagliani said.

The announcement is set for 2 p.m. ET.

Though Montagliani said a joint, three-country bid would be a good "fit", he acknowledged that no decision has been made, and probably will not be made until the end of the year.

The Usa will join Canada and Mexico in a threeway play to host the 2026 World Cup, the head of the organization that regulates global football in North and Central America. Now, the three countries have set up a press conference for Monday in NY where they will make a "historic announcement".

The development of the Concacaf bid, together with running a successful Gold Cup tournament this summer, is a key element in Montagliani's campaign as its new president to refocus on football itself, following the arrests, criminal indictments and revelations of huge corruption at the confederation under his predecessors. New boss Gianni Infantino has expressed his desire to see more joint bids because it would allow countries that otherwise could not host to get involved. The 2018 World Cup was given to Russian Federation, as well as the 2022 occasion - which since-deposed FIFA president Sepp Blatter lobbied for the US sponsor alone - instead was granted to Qatar.

Craig Burley shares his dissatisfaction with FIFA's 48-team World Cup proposal, which would increase CONCACAF's allocation from 3.5 to six teams.

The 2026 World Cup will be a lot different from previous editions as Federation Internationale de Football Association recently approved an expansion to have 16 more teams. CONCACAF now gets three automatic slots and its fourth-place team advances to a playoff for another. Canada's lone World Cup appearance came in the 1986 event, at which they lost all three games.

Montagliani said all nations in the region, including the US and Mexico, would have to play in the competition. By most accounts, the three-nation bid is considered a strong early favorite.
