White House Offers New Intel to House & Senate

Pressed repeatedly over the story, Spicer said that commenting on it would validate a story based on anonymous sources and that the press in general should be less focused on the process Nunes went through. Typically, the American is a suspect in a crime, is in danger or has to be named to explain the context of the report, said Fox News.

The White House has invited the chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate intelligence committees to review new material potentially relevant to their investigations, Spicer added.

One reporter, no doubt speaking for several, wondered why the White House did not go this route in the first place, rather than having aides coordinate what Sen.

"The National Security Committee has come upon some materials they want to share with them".

Nunes has acknowledged that the incidental intelligence gathering on Trump associates a year ago was not necessarily unlawful.

After reading them, Cohen-Watnick chose to alert Ellis, the official said.

The classified information was discovered, Spicer said, "in the ordinary course of business" by the National Security Council. Seats are allocated by the White House Correspondents Association, but any credentialed member of the media can attend.

Nunes has declined to confirm or deny Cohen-Watnick was a source.

Two White House officials reportedly helped House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes acquire the information he later made public, according to the New York Times. But a senior White House official told CNN "Reince is not next".

In the wake of the news Nunes viewed the documents on White House grounds, Schiff called for Nunes to recuse himself from the investigation. But after making a sudden visit to the White House last week, Nunes emerged with a claim that he suggested partially vindicated Trump's claim.

Spicer also said he was "not aware of anything directly" when asked if the president directed the White House staffers to find proof of his wiretapping claims. But if the Times report is correct, that is what happened.

Nunes has been under heavy pressure by Democrats to recuse himself as the head of the House's investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. "It is becoming disturbingly clear that the White House will do anything to try to change headlines President Trump doesn't like".

Schiff also spoke bluntly on the subject of the Russian Federation investigation, saying that the committee was not going to be distracted. and declaring that they would get to the bottom of what Russian Federation did, how it was done, and whether there was any collusion with the Trump campaign.
