Windsor group plans demonstration to protest United States missile strikes in Syria

It added that the council had discussed keeping a Russian air force presence in Syria to support the anti-terrorist operations of the Syrian army. After the USA strikes, that task now looks harder.

In a joint statement, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Assad himself brought on the US attack on the airbase and "carries responsibility for these developments".

Reaction from the worldwide community started to pour in Friday hours after the USA carried out airstrikes on a Syrian airfield in order to prevent more chemical attacks in the region.

President Donald Trump authorized the attack on an air base in the Homs province Thursday in retaliation for a deadly chemical attack in the country earlier this week.

In a statement, the Turkish foreign ministry said Ankara would give its "full support to steps taken to ensure that similar crimes do not go unpunished and (that there is) accountability".

"The military effectiveness of the massive U.S. missile strike on the Syrian airbase is therefore extremely low".

The overnight strikes in Syria represent the first major military action of Donald Trump's presidency, and is the first time the US has directly targeted the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad since the start of the country's grinding civil war.

Russian Federation would keep military channels of communication open with Washington, but would not exchange any information through them, he added.

It is not clear if the Russian Defence Ministry was referring to the Admiral Grigorovich in its statement released on Friday morning. It was unclear where another 36 had landed, it said, promising Syrian air defences would now be beefed up. But U.S. military officials were convinced that the Assad regime had carried out the massacre.

The state TV said the attack was an "American aggression". He said he hoped U.S. -Russia ties would not be irreparably hurt as a result.

"US actions further destroy Russia-US relations", she added.

One senior Russian lawmaker, Leonid Slutsky, told the Russia 24 television channel on Friday Moscow should use the Tillerson visit to "try and talk sense into Washington".

Syria, ironically, was one of the few areas where analysts believed Moscow and Washington might be able to find common ground.

Until this week, the US President had suggested that Bashar al-Assad could stay on in power because America should concentrate on fighting ISIS.

The airstrikes "are an immensely risky episode in the relationship between Russia and the United States, not least because they potentially bring into contact Russian forces who are on the ground in Syria and the USA forces", Matthew Chance, CNN's senior global correspondent based in Moscow, said.

Western countries have dismissed this version of events and say Syrian planes dropped the gas, which Assad denies.

The US action was welcomed by Syrian opposition group the Syrian National Coalition.

Corbyn, a lifelong opponent of military intervention overseas, said unilateral action without "legal authorisation" risks escalating the Syrian conflict and told the United Kingdom government to "urge restraint" from President Trump. The missiles from two warships hit the target at 3.45 am.

"I fear that with these approaches the hoped-for U.S".
