Lawyer says Kushner stands ready to talk to investigators

Ambassador Sergei Kislyak reportedly told Kremlin superiors that Jared Kushner proposed the communication during a secret meeting at Trump Tower - one that was caught on surveillance by USA intelligence, the Washington Post reported.

"Kislyak, like most Russian ambassadors to the USA over the past 50 years or more, is believed to be very active in support of Russian intelligence operations".

It gives the appearance that Kushner was trying to avoid surveillance from USA intelligence.

Kushner first came to the attention of the Federal Bureau of Investigation previous year as investigators began scrutinizing former Trump national security advisor Michael Flynn's connections with Russian officials, Reuters reported, citing two sources.

Kushner's meeting with Kislyak at Trump Tower previous year was eventually disclosed by the White House in March. Flynn is reportedly under investigation, as are, Paul Manafort the former campaign manager and Carter Page a former foreign policy advisor. The Post says Kislyak was reportedly "taken aback" by the suggestion.

US intelligence officials told the newspaper that while Moscow's diplomats can securely communicate with Moscow, Kushner's apparent suggestion was extraordinary.

Miller reports that even Russians were concerned about the security risks of such an arrangement.

Neither the meeting nor the communications of Americans involved were under USA surveillance, officials said. "So bringing an American in to use that phone line would be pretty remarkable".

As NBC News reported, he is considered only a "person of interest" - a term that has no legal definition and does not signify that he could face criminal charges.

Russian Federation occasionally attempts to deliberately disclose misleading information when it believes it is being monitored, allowing for the possibility that the request from Kushner did not actually occur, the Post story noted.

The CIA concluded in December that Russian Federation had attempted to interfere in the USA election with the intention of aiding Trump.

As Mic previously reported, Jared Kushner, son-in-law and adviser to President Donald Trump, is now under investigation as part of the FBI inquiry into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The FBI's Russian Federation probe is being overseen by former bureau director Robert Mueller, who was appointed as a special counsel by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein after Trump fired Comey.

Flynn has so far refused to turn over documents related to Senate Intelligence Committee, invoking the Fifth Amendment in his rejection of a Senate subpoena. The bank also has close ties to Russia's leadership.

Kushner offered in March to be interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is also investigating Russia's attempts to interfere in last year's election.

Obama administration officials told The Associated Press earlier this week that the frequency of Flynn's discussions with Kislyak raised enough red flags that aides discussed the possibility Trump was trying to establish a one-to-one line of communication - a so-called back channel - with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump's advisers were similarly secretive about meetings with leaders from the United Arab Emirates.

It's not unusual for campaigns and transitions to have conversations with foreign leaders, but in this context, it is weird for US campaigns to meet with Russians.

"How would he trust that the Russians wouldn't leak it on their side?" said one former senior intelligence official.

While there is rampant speculation that Jared Kushner could face prison for his role in the collusion with Russian Federation, the White House continues to deny any improper contact with Russian Federation. "I'm not talking about campaigns".
