North Korea Could Be Linked To The WannaCry Cyberattack

Group Behind Leak of Tools Used in Ransomware Attack Says Ready to Sell More CodeMore

Though North Korea has never admitted any involvement in the Sony Pictures hack, security researchers and the U.S. government are confident in the theory and neither can rule out the possibility of a false flag. This would help them to plan if their country is attacked. According to Mehta's discovery, the "Lazarus Group" that works on behalf of North Koreans may be behind the attack as the hacking group has, in the past, used the same coding and tools as were used in "WannaCrypt" - the software used in the current hacking into the Microsoft operating software, the BBC reported on Tuesday.

"Since a July 2009 attack by North Korea, they used the same method".

But in vain. White House Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert told reporters, "We are not aware of payments that have led to any data recovery". "It is similar to North Korea's backdoor malicious codes", said Choi.

"We are encouraged by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting today to discuss the urgency of the threat posed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)", they wrote in a letter to the council Tuesday. The United States accused it of being behind a cyber attack on Sony Pictures in 2014.

"Intezer Labs confirms the #WannaCry was initiated by North Korea".

But the paper did not comment whether the North had suffered the attack.

After the series of unprecedented cyber-attacks on more than 400,000 systems and users in as many as 150 countries in the world on May 12, the experts have stepped in to find out the culprits behind this massive scale cyber-attacks occurred in human history.

"We have underestimated North Korea so far, [assuming ] since North Korea is poor, it wouldn't have any technologies".

The kingdom's electronic security agency says about 18 percent of Saudi Telecom's computers were affected by the cyberattack.

"The real situation may be serious".

More than 200,000 computers were crippled worldwide, the paper said, citing the European Police Office.

Taiwan Power Co. TAIWP.UL said that almost 800 of its computers were affected, although these were used for administration, not for systems involved in electricity generation.
