Senate moderates hold bipartisan health care talks

Rep. John Faso, New York's District 19, tried to justify his vote in favor by attacking Obamacare. According to then President Obama, "Whatever ideas exist in terms of bending the cost curve and starting to reduce costs for families, businesses and government, those elements are in this bill".

The Republicans hold a slim majority in the Senate of 52 to 48, and they'll need at least a majority vote to pass the bill under budget reconciliation guidelines.

Speak out now by flooding House Representative Bergman's phone line (231/714-4785) with your message. Critics of the House bill argue that if states were able to obtain a waiver, millions of Americans who get health insurance through Medicaid, especially those who obtained it through Obamacare's Medicaid expansion program, would lose coverage.

I'll make a similar recommendation to the one a few weeks ago when I said spend store credit if you have it. This is magical thinking at best, cruel alternative facts at worst. Some Marylanders have seen premiums go up 50 percent or more.

The Senate committee passed a bill that, although not flawless, was pretty good.

Republicans have given the facade of continued coverage for pre-existing conditions and for numerous Americans who have gained coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act, but numerous Medicaid expansions are being changed to things like block grants for states.

McKinley is skeptical of that number, and pointed out the CBO says the average premium will cost less under the American Health Care Act.

Curtailing federal support for Medicaid expansion could also lead states to restrict how many people can get long-term care, Prokop said; such care accounted for more than 21% of all Medicaid spending in fiscal 2015. It would also provide $8 billion through 2023 for people facing higher premiums. It steals more than $117 billion from Medicare and shortens its life by three years.

Bost, who voted for the AHCA, said that when it comes to health care, the country has two choices: continue operating under the ACA as it moves toward collapse or begin the process of putting a different system in place.

West Virginians need to be kept in the system whether they're on Medicaid or not, Capito said. That is why it is opposed by AARP, the American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association and so many more.

Those questions would all be worked on and answered if the governor signs the bill and a study group along with the Nevada Department of Insurance, the Silver State Health Exchange, Nevada's Division of Health Care Financing would all work together and figure it out.
