Trump Confident Senate Will Join House in Repealing US Health Law

GOP Members Pull Back Curtain, Describe 'Hands-On' President

The Senate's approach is likely to result in legislation that doesn't fully repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, despite repeated promises from President Trump and House Republicans.

Collins also complained that the House rushed a vote before the Congressional Budget Office could complete its cost-benefit analysis.

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said Sunday that he and fellow Democrats acknowledge problems with ObamaCare and that's they be willing to help revise the 2010 health care law.

President Donald Trump talks with House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wis., in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, May 4, 2017, after the House pushed through a health care bill. It would dilute consumer-friendly insurance coverage requirements, like prohibiting higher premiums for customers with pre-existing medical conditions.

"Under this bill, no matter what, you can not be denied coverage if you have a preexisting condition", Ryan said.

However, he also seemed to make a point of giving the Senate time to make changes, despite Trump's strong desire to fulfill his campaign promise of repealing and replacing ObamaCare.

As of now, because the GOP pushed to vote before a new CBO score was released, it is unclear how much the new health care legislation would cost or how many people might lose their coverage.

"There are no cuts to the Medicaid program", Price insisted Sunday, adding that resources are being doled out to allow states greater flexibility.

Major medical and other organizations, including the American Medical Association, oppose the House bill.

"Republican senators will not let the American people down!" he tweeted from his home in central New Jersey, where he spent a long weekend.

Trump called the bill as "a great plan and I think it will get even better", saying a few times - "Make no mistake: this is a repeal and replace of Obamacare".

"We think we need to do even more support for people who are older and also more support for people with pre-existing conditions", Ryan told ABC.

Some House lawmakers have been challenged by the public over the House vote.

"What we're trying to do is to improve the Medicaid system - make it more responsive to patients", he said.

"It is an impossible thing to do, and my job and the MA delegation's job is to make their job even tougher", Markey added at the Boston office of Health Care for All, an advocacy group. Priebus was on "Fox News Sunday".

Collins and Ryan appeared on ABC's "This Week", Price was on NBC's "Meet the Press" and on CNN's "State of the Union" with Kasich, while Mulvaney was interviewed on CBS' "Face the Nation".
