Trump says 'fast decision' possible on new Federal Bureau of Investigation director

Comey was taken aback by Trump request for loyalty pledge

Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Republican Senator John Cornyn, New York Appeals Court Judge Michael Garcia and former Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher will be interviewed on Saturday for the post, an administration official said. John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Senate leader and a former state attorney general.

Turns out we didn't have to imagine - as Comey publicly disclosed in March, the FBI's counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign's ties with Russian Federation began last July. Aides later said the president had been considering firing Comey for months, and Trump said he would have made the decision regardless of the US Justice Department recommendation.

"If the propaganda "destroy-Trump" media - if they're gonna smear and slander him and his administration and his family and lie about facts and what he's done, why bother", Hannity said.

White House officials had hoped last week's House vote would give the president a much-needed burst of momentum and infuse new energy into efforts to fully overhaul the Obamacare health law and pass a massive tax reform package.

Several candidates for the job have been interviewed Saturday at Justice Department headquarters in Washington.

"We see credible reporting that he may well be guilty of obstructing justice in the FBI investigation, first by demanding loyalty to him personally from the man investigating him", Lichtman said. But Kelly also came under fire for his use of aggressive police tactics, including a program that spied on Muslims and a dramatic spike in the use of stop-and-frisk, which disproportionately affected nonwhite New Yorkers. He spoke during a meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the White House.

Republicans control both chambers of the U.S. Congress. "Based on my evaluation, and for the reasons expressed by the Deputy Attorney General in the attached memorandum, I have concluded that a fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI", Sessions' letter said.

If either Fisher or Townsend was confirmed by the Senate, it would be the first time the Federal Bureau of Investigation would be led by a woman.

Now a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins specializing in white-collar criminal and internal investigations, Fisher formerly served as assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division of the Justice Department.

She faced resistance from Democrats during her confirmation over her alleged participation in discussions about detention policies at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. McCabe has temporarily taken over leadership of the FBI, and at a congressional hearing Thursday he made clear that he liked and respected Comey, and had no intention of briefing Trump on the Russian Federation investigation. He served as the USA attorney in Manhattan from 2005 to 2008, and previously held high-level positions in the Commerce Department, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security.

Among those interviewed was Adam Lee, special agent in charge of the FBI's Richmond, Virginia, office.

Garcia served as assistant secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. attorney under former president George W. Bush.
